Washi Tape Sign! One Crafty Contest

Thursday, June 6, 2013

So I'm a little behind when it comes to sharing my projects from the One Crafty Contest over at
One Artsy Mama, but rest assured I have still NOT been eliminated!
WooHOOO TOP 5 BABY!!!! I have to admit I am kind of in shock!!! :)
Each Tuesday when the results are posted I am completely AMAZED that I am still surviving!
For some one who is "kind of crafty" and writes a tiny little blog I never thought I would last this long!!! I am so thankful for everyone who votes and for all of your support!!

So the Round 2 Challenge was WASHI TAPE!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!
I have to admit... I only had 3 small rolls of washi tape that I was given as gifts and to be honest had never used it for anything except gift wrapping so for this challenge I was a little stumped! After a few failed crafting attempts I decided to stick with what I know and love and to create a fun little sign for Bella's bedroom:)

I started this sign with my normal routine... Citrus Shield Premium Color Paste Wax,
BEST STUFF EVER,
which I rubbed onto the entire board.

Then I used some scrap vinyl and cut the words "You are my Sunshine" and applied them onto the wood  where I wanted them. (sorry I forgot to take pics of this part)
Then I used some pretty pink spray paint and sprayed right over the vinyl in several light coats.
Then I used my tiny little tweezers and pulled off the vinyl while the paint was STILL WET!
I don't often use vinyl when making my signs because I really like the hand painted look but in this case when I wanted the stain to be the letters it was the perfect trick!

Once the paint was all dry I added a border with some fun washi tape that I picked up at Michael's.
Then I got to work on making the little washi tape pennant. To do this I just put the washi tape onto some plain white card stock and then cut it into the shape of the flags. I really wanted the flags to be different sizes and lengths and since the washi tape I purchased was all different widths it worked out perfectly!

Once the flags were made I used my crusty  trusty hot glue gun and glued the flags directly onto some cute ric rac:) and then glued the ric rac onto the board!!!! Easy Peasy!!!

I really LOVE the way the sign turned out and more importantly so does Bella:)
but the best part of all is that this little beauty helped me make it to the TOP 10!!!!!!
Thanks so much to everyone who voted for me in the contest!!!
Stay Tuned for more updates!!!!
